The new MoonSwatch combines a chronograph with a lunar phase display for the first time. Snoopy also appears in the white-dominated watch.
Two years have passed since the Fake Omega and Swatch brands presented the MoonSwatch model. Creating the iconic Speedmaster in a bioceramic version was a bold, widely commented move and – something that had not happened on such a scale for several decades – caused people to form queues in front of Swatch showrooms that had never been seen before. Over time, the line of 11 different colored MoonSwatch variants was supplemented with further versions, including: the one with the gold-plated stopwatch seconds hand – Mission to the Moonshine Gold. Now a white model joins the family, in which Swatch has added a lunar phase display to the stopwatch for the first time.
MoonSwatch and Snoopy
The above-mentioned indication of the phases of the Moon – which is the core of the new project – was implemented in the form incorporated into the hour. 2 discs in which Snoopy is seen lying on the moon on a rotating disk. The famous cartoon character has been NASA’s mascot since the 1960s, and the associated Silver Snoopy Award is considered the most prestigious distinction awarded by the American space agency for outstanding achievements in flight safety. Those of you who are close to the Speedmaster topic will certainly be familiar with the fact that Omega received it in 1970 for its contribution to the successful, safe return to Earth of the Apollo 13 crew. In the world of collectors, Moonwatches with Snoopy are particularly popular – especially the limited model from 2015. It is therefore hardly surprising that this character was used in the new MoonSwatch.
However, the Moon phase disc with the famous Peanuts character visible on it is not everything. After turning off the light and pointing a UV flashlight at the dial, the owner’s eyes will see the quote “I can’t sleep without a night light!” (from English: “I can’t sleep without a night lamp!”), which in a way also refers to the reference from 2015, where the inscription “Failure is not an option.” (English: “Failure is not an option”). Tidbits like these make the watch fun and ultimately more fun.
White Moon(Swatch)
White is definitely dominant in the new MoonSwatch – this is the color of the dial, bezel, chronograph buttons and the VELCRO strap adapted to be fastened to an astronaut’s suit. The cover is also white, with the battery cover decorated with a drawing of the Moon with an imprint of Snoopy’s paw.
The watch includes details associated with the iconic Speedmaster. So there is, among others: asymmetrical 42 mm case and a bezel with a tachymetric scale with the so-called “dot over ninety” (i.e. a dot above 90). By the way – MoonSwatch MttM debuts less than 3 weeks after the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with a white, lacquered dial.
Mission to the Moonphase – thanks to the addition of Moon phase indications – is an interesting and non-obvious extension of the MoonSwatch family. I like the numerous details and the distance they have from the Swatch and Omega design. A watch treated with a pinch of salt will certainly bring a smile to the face of its future owners many times, while guaranteeing a lot of joy when worn on the wrist.
Although the MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase model has already been officially shown, it will only be available in selected Swatch boutiques in a few days – from March 26. The company stipulates that one person will be able to buy only one copy. And this one was valued at PLN 1,600.
