When, in the first half of the 1970s, new designs of sports watches with an integrated design began to hit the market, probably no one realized what an important and groundbreaking trend they were actually starting. Fake Vacheron Constantin joined the race in the second half of this decade, but, as I have already mentioned, it never achieved great success. Great, at least in terms of facing the top competition, which has always been at least one step ahead in the fight for collectors’ wrists. Probably still, if you want to look at sales statistics or customer sympathy, this status remains, which in my opinion does not diminish the quality and class of the Overseas model at all.
In steel, the most natural variant and faithful to the original vision, Overseas is like all serious members of the “sports integrated watch” category. In gold, the whole concept takes on a new face, because it turns an everyday sports watch into an absolutely luxurious proposition. It’s hard to deny that the gold-dripping Overseas (in each of the four variants) is not a bit ostentatious, but I admit with some surprise – I would wear it. The combination of 5N pink gold and this bottled, metallic, deep and at the same time subdued green turned out great for Vacheron. It’s one of the prettiest green dials on the market, and I think it will make me look at gold watches differently. It’s not easy, it’s not cheap, but it is very beautiful. And the aesthetic side of good watchmaking is of great importance.
